This past week we have studied and listened to many different types of music, and heard many different songs. I choose to write about “My Blue Heaven” by Gene Austin. When listening to this song for the first time, I enjoyed the soft, smooth sound it had. The words are soft and sweet and compliment the music perfectly. It is a love song that relates birds and nests to love. It also relates love to a cozy room and a fire place. “My Blue Heaven” was the best selling record from 1927 until 1942.
The song has whistling noise in the background that gives the illusion of birds, which ties in perfectly with the lyrics. In the first verse he sings “Night shades falling, love birds calling”, so the whistling in the background gives the illusion of “Love Birds Calling.”
I like the way it made love seem comfortable and peaceful. And how in the song is said “Just Molly and me and baby makes three”. To me, these lyrics said that all he needed to feel love was himself, Molly, and baby, and that the three of them equaled love. It showed that he doesn’t need a lot of fancy things to feel incredible love, but rather just a few people that he loves is all he wants.
